Every time I release a new quilt pattern, I’m amazed by what the pattern testers make — and this round truly outdid themselves! The Knitty North Star pattern seems to bring out something different in everyone: some went graphic and modern, others soft and cozy, and some went completely scrappy.
Here are some of the wonderful makers who helped bring this quilt to life — each one added their own spark to the design.

Rachel Johnston – @starfishandpearlquilts
Rachel made a throw-size version in crisp blue, white, and orange. The solids give it a striking, graphic look — cool and modern, yet perfectly balanced. Did I mention she's a talented photographer, too?

Vanessa Moon – @silvermoonquilts
Vanessa went all-in with ’80s pastel heaven — but make it 2025! Her quilt mixes hot pink, aqua, lavender, dark teal, and a pop of yellow. She fussy cut many of the squares, so it’s a playful I spy quilt full of kitties, sloths, hippos, perfume bottles, and more.

Alaina Green – @heliotropegreen
Alaina’s quilt is pure scrappy joy! She combined blues, lots of different aqua tones, yellows, and pinks on a scrappy grey background.

Hande – @quiltwhatfeelsgood
Hande made a summer-vibey throw size in beautiful greens and pinks on a scrappy, low-volume background. The hot pink center really pops!

Sol Stensland – @lappesola
Sol’s queen-size version feels like summer in Norway! A white background with soft reds, blues, greens, and yellows — gentle, pastel, and light-filled. The gingham binding is the perfect finishing touch, giving it a timeless cottage look.

Kristine T. Pharo – @kristinetp23
Kristine stayed close to the traditional Selbu knitting roots with a black-and-white palette — but made it scrappy, and added tiny pops of pink! A beautiful modern twist on a classic combination.

Madeline Jensen – @crinkly.and.cozy
Madeline’s quilt glows with autumn warmth — burnt reds, oranges, and white. You can almost imagine wrapping up in it on a chilly fall porch, watching the leaves change.

Nina Strandsplads – @dengladetraad
Nina made the baby size in beautiful purple and pink batiks. The dark central star really stands out — truly the star of the show!

Janna Surprise – @westerngals_quilts
Another lovely scrappy version! Janna went for cozy fall vibes, with a brown background and lighter fabrics for the stars and flowers. It’s warm, soft, and full of autumn charm.

Mali Storli Engedal – @storli123
Mali used a grey chambray background with blues, whites, and a pop of yellow. Bonus points for the many star prints hidden in the fabrics!

Diane (Dee) Patton – @yallstitchedup
Dee’s quilt is elegant and rich, with a dark maroon and purple background, paired with orange, yellow, and white accents. A sophisticated color combination that feels perfect for fall.

Andrea Jarvis – @quiltifact
Last, but not least: Andrea in New Zealand went for a vibrant, modern Christmas palette with hot pink, red, and plenty of Ruby Star fabrics. The red eight-pointed star even doubles as a poinsettia — how cool is that?
I’m so grateful for each of these talented quilters and their creativity, feedback, and attention to detail. I hope their quilts inspire you to make your own version of Knitty North Star — whether you go classic and minimal, soft and Scandinavian, or full-on scrappy!
