Star Tapestry Quilt: The Ruby Star Persimmon version

Star Tapestry Quilt: The Ruby Star Persimmon version

For the cover quilt of Star Tapestry, I wanted to lean into something playful, colourful and a little bit whimsical. The quilt itself is inspired by old Norwegian woven textiles, but I loved the idea of combining that geometric structure with fabrics that felt young, cheerful and full of personality.

The cover quilt is sewn in the Baby size and made with the Persimmon fabric collection by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society. This collection immediately caught my eye because it's both super cute (Bunnies! Fruit! Juice!) and has a fun color scheme.

One recurring character throughout the collection is Bun E., a little white bunny who appears in different playful scenes and poses. There are also tiny juice boxes, stylized trees, persimmon fruits and flowers scattered throughout the collection, together with more geometric prints.

Below are the fabrics I used for the quilt:

  • Fabric 1: Bun E. and Simmy in Dandelion
  • Fabric 2: Joosie Joose in Shell
  • Fabric 3: The Grove in Cranberry
  • Fabric 4: Persimmons in Hibiscus
  • Not pictured: Binding. I used Persimmon Blossoms in Twilight

Because the quilt is made from one repeated block, fabric placement becomes incredibly important. In this version, the darker brown fabric helps anchor the design and makes the secondary stars stand out clearly, even with all the playful prints going on inside the quilt.

Tip: To make the secondary star design really stand out, keep a strong light/dark contrast between fabrics 2 (background) and 3 (star points).

(The blue binding picks up the blue details in the prints in the quilt. For the backing, I used a pink bird fabric from Ruby Star's 'Bird is the word' collection.)

I’ve also made a few mockups using alternative Persimmon colour combinations, and it’s so fun to see how much the mood changes just by swapping a couple of fabrics:

The Persimmon collection is arriving in quilt shops internationally during June 2026, while Norwegian shops are expected to receive it in August. I'm teaming up with some quilt shops who are creating kits, so stay tuned for info if you're tempted by this super cute collection!

If you want to read more about the Norwegian woven textiles that inspired Star Tapestry, I’ve written a separate blog post about the inspiration behind the pattern
