Star Tapestry is inspired by traditional Norwegian woven textiles called åkle.
Each block in this quilt is identical, but thanks to the color placement, a secondary pattern appears and reveals an eight-pointed star. The result is a quilt that looks intricate and complex while still being beginner-friendly and fun to sew.
The cover quilt is made with the whimsical Persimmon fabric collection by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society, but Star Tapestry works beautifully in all kinds of fabrics and color palettes – from soft Scandinavian neutrals to bold modern prints or scrappy vintage-inspired combinations.
This is a beginner-friendly PDF pattern that uses strip piecing to make the process quick and fun.
