Meet Mormor: a sturdy, graphic quilt pattern made for actual life. Throw it over a sofa, tuck it around cold feet at the cabin, carry it from room to room and love it so much that it gets softer every time it is washed. Exactly the kind of quilt I love!
The alternating light and dark fabrics create strong horizontal bands with a clean, geometric look. Mormor is minimalist and utilitarian in the very best way: timeless, useful and made to last. It’s also a great quilt for anyone who prefers simple, understated designs.
“Mormor” is the Norwegian word for maternal grandmother. The design is inspired by the traditional Norwegian Fana cardigan, which I once knitted for my own mormor – so the name felt like the obvious choice.
The Mormor pattern is fat quarter and fat eighth friendly, making it perfect for a coordinated bundle or a carefully selected pull from your stash. For the best stripe effect, choose half of your fabrics in lighter values and half in darker values.
The quilt is partly strip pieced, making construction quick and approachable. With clear diagrams and straightforward instructions, Mormor is suitable for beginners and an enjoyable, relaxing project for more experienced quilters.
