Norwegian Chain is a quilt pattern inspired by a small but beautiful detail: the tiny black cross-stitches on the white headscarf of my Sunnmøre bunad (traditional Norwegian costume).
The pattern comes in two versions:
– a calm, classic 2-color version inspired by the original stitching
– and a more playful 5-color version where you can have a bit more fun with color
Both versions are included in the same pattern. The construction is almost the same for both, with just a slightly simpler sashing in the 2-color version.
Norwegian Chain is a beginner-friendly pattern and a great project if you enjoy tidy, structured piecing. The quilt is built using strip piecing for the main units, which gives accurate results and helps speed up the process.
This is a pattern that works just as well in a very calm, limited palette as it does in a more colorful and playful version — and it’s easy to adapt to your own style and fabric choices.
